The volume of cotton produced in the republic from January to July 2019 decreased by one third, but exports increased during this period. This was reported by the press service State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics.
“Cotton exports amounted to $ 222 million. Textile products were produced for $ 771.2 million, “the statement says.
In 2018, Uzbekistan did not fulfill the cotton harvest plan.
The lack of rain and cool weather prevented the normal development of cotton. Because of this, the volume of cotton produced in the seven months of 2019 amounted to only 320 thousand tons.
About 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and one million tons of cotton fiber are produced annually in Uzbekistan. Of these, about 50% of the produced cotton fiber is shipped for export. Fiber worth $ 141.5 million was exported to China alone in the first half of 2019.
By 2025, Uzbekistan plans to completely abandon the export of cotton fiber and independently ensure its processing in the domestic market. This was reported by Dilbar Mukhammedova, head of the strategic forecasting department of the Uztekstilprom association.
